Making

Today I had a go at block stamp printing. I used an old, largish eraser to carve the design on, then printed with fabric paint onto a spare piece of linen. Using a basic knowledge of how to put together a bag, I produced this handy little pouch. I'm thinking this makes a good start to my Christmas makings...

Recent work

I have so many things on the go at the moment, but thought I'd check in and give a quick look inside my studio to see the portrait that has been taking up most of my spare minutes. Excuse the mess.

You can get some impression from this shot of all the beautiful natural light this room gets (no surprise that it's the perfect choice for a studio, albeit a little small). With spring upon us (and frosts nearly gone) our veg patch and garden has taken top priority lately, so the portrait above is taking some time. But with perfect growing weather lately I can hardly complain.

Work

I've been busy. Working on a few portraits of some dear friend's children. It's fantastic practice, really observing, and requires great concentration and patience. My eyes hurt.

My next project takes me large scale, which is a new challenge but surprisingly fun work. I only began yesterday so very early days. We shall see.

After months of umming and ahhing over our less than perfect couch, I took a leap and gave it away. We had a matching set, and now that I've removed one, I want to replace the other. I'm amazed how much more light and space the room has. I mean, obviously there is more space, I knew there would be because I'm not an idiot, but the whole room feels lifted. 

It was originally in front of the window, and I was feeling a little over-committed to the dark leather, so the fact that the sun had done some damage, although disappointing, was at least a good excuse to get rid of it.
